Dr. Gibson earned his BSc in Agriculture from the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph in 1986. After completing teachers' college at the University of Windsor, he taught in York Region for three years. Dr. Gibson then returned to Guelph, graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995.
Following six years in small animal general practice, he pursued further education, completing a small animal rotating internship and surgical residency at OVC and obtaining a DVSc. He became board certified with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 2006.
After working in private referral practice for two years, Dr. Gibson joined OVC as an Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgery from 2007 to 2019.
After completing rehabilitation training at the University of Tennessee in 2010, Dr. Gibson then achieved board certification with the American College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) in 2018. He regularly lectures on orthopedic disease and rehabilitation methods for treatment of orthopaedic disease and pain management (an area of particular clinical and research interest).
In January 2020, he founded Grand River Veterinary Surgical Services in Cambridge, Ontario, specializing in orthopedic surgery with an interest in rehabilitation.
Dr. Gibson offers orthopedic surgery services at Animal Hospital of Cambridge by referral only and is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
